Summit Sessions

Economic Opportunity

The Summit will highlight three key areas impacting the daily lives of Latinos and relevant issues in those areas. These key areas include Economic opportunity, Health, and Education. The Economic Opportunity panel discusses the lack of opportunity for Latinos in Texas. This includes conversations about gentrification, broadband, property taxes, and housing. We will also discuss what we need to be doing and where we need to invest for Latinos to thrive and not just survive.

Session 1

Education

Education is the second area of focus for this event, this includes voting, resources and services, and public and higher education for our young Latino community.

Session 2

Healthcare and Mental Health

The Healthcare and Mental Health session will include a conversation about healthcare as it relates to Latinos, the largest uninsured group in Texas. With recent events, we will discuss gun violence, mental health, and women’s rights. Part of the conversation is about how to make healthcare more affordable for the Latino community.

Session 3

History

This “Pancho Medrano” Summit started in 2018 when Texas Senator Royce West saw the need to host a town hall for Latino residents. An event in which different state and city leaders would be able to answer questions and ease fears among the Latino community about current situations and near-future changes.

He named it Pancho Medrano , after the respected Francisco “Pancho” Medrano - one of Dallas’ leading Latino civil rights and labor leaders during the 1960s.

This year's sessions will cover Economic Opportunity, Education, Healthcare, and Mental Health topics.
